Read a short note from Dr. Shoba Subramanian on Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month:

“Ovarian Cancer is the eighth most commonly occurring cancer in women1, proving how important and lifesaving cancer screenings can be. It’s believed that a woman diagnosed at the earliest stage, increases her chance of surviving ovarian cancer for five years or more from 46% to more than 90%2."

“The symptoms of ovarian cancer can be difficult to recognise, particularly early in the disease. The most common symptoms include a persistent bloated feeling, a swollen tummy, discomfort in your tummy or pelvic area, changes in your bowel or bladder habits e.g. constipation or needing to pass water urgently or unexplained weight loss or tiredness. If you are experiencing one or more of the symptoms of ovarian cancer, don't let the COVID-19 pandemic put you off contacting your GP/Physician.

Whilst you may be nervous about the risk of contracting COVID-19 disease, please remember that getting worrying symptoms checked out is essential for your overall health and wellbeing and lots of providers can be accessed now through a Virtual Visit service from the comfort of your home. Despite COVID-19 it’s still important to be seen by a doctor.” - Dr. Shoba Subramanian, Medical Director, Europe, UnitedHealthcare Global
